The #IceBucketChallenge was one of the biggest viral sensations of 2014. You couldn’t refresh any of your social feeds without seeing a video shared of some famous celebrity or other high-profile influencer dumping a bucket of ice water over their heads to support ALS Association research.

From Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg, to Ryan Seacrest and Justin Timberlake, everyone who took the challenge seemed more than willing to get a little cold and wet if it meant they could help spread the word about a good cause. Those who completed the challenge kept the viral momentum going by ending their videos with nominations of other individuals and top influencers to participate in the challenge as well.

Despite some of the criticism the goofy hashtag game has received about doing nothing to help ALS awareness, the Association announced that a whopping $41.8 million had already been between July 29th to August 21st, 2014 compared to the $2.1 million that was raised during the same period in 2013. Clearly, a silly social media gimmick can do some pretty remarkable things.

Here are some of the most creatively thought up and captured #IceBucketChallenge videos from a few artsy filmmakers who’ve shared them on Vimeo. And since you’re still reading this, you might as well visit the ALS Association website so you can hit the big red “Donate” button to make a donation of any amount if you haven’t yet already.

(Do not put in drinks, do not eat, do not touch skin, etc.) At least the guy wore goggles and gloves. Ouch. Don’t try this at home, folks. More »
