Design Books that I like to read, Vol. III
The next book in my “Design Books That I Like to Read” series is a book by one of my all time favorite design firms, Chen Design Associates.
FINGERPRINT: The Art of Using Handmade Elements in Graphic Design.
by CHEN DESIGN ASSOCIATES (with forward by MICHAEL MABRY)
“Design is at a turning point. Our infatuation with–and the backlash against–technology is over.” When people think of graphic design, they immediately think about computers but that’s not where graphic design began. Originally designers actually had to cut crap with their x-acto knives. They had to touch paper with their hands and draw stuff. But when the computer busted on the scene, everyone was like, screw paper…I’m in love with Zuzana Licko and her sweet new fonts. But now people are getting tired of the cold, sterile technology. They want the feeling of a good felt finish on their fingertips. This book is a nod to those people. It’s saying there’s a new style in town and it’s not going away.
I love color and paper and pencils and cutting junk with stuff. This is real design created by real designers.
Thanks for reading.
