As a graphic designer, I do a lot of blog reading. I do it for several reasons: 1) It’s important that I stay up on current trends, whether to design to them or make sure that I stay away from them. 2) Inspiration is a major one. I subscribe to several blogs that aren’t just graphic design oriented. I find that reading up on cultural trends sometimes inspires me more than specific graphic design trends. 3) I don’t know everything. I read blogs to learn from guys that have been designing way longer than I have and know the ropes way better than I do.
Here’s just a small handful of some of my favorite blogs…
http://www.logodesignlove.com/ – “Logo Design Love is a website devoted to logos.” Posts range from fun logo iterations to serious logo design tips.
http://www.underconsideration.
http://www.atimetoget.com/ – “Not for this. Not for that. For everything in between. For work. For avoiding work. For inspiration. For a resource. For entertainment. For a minute. For an hour. The good, the bad, and yes, even the ugly. In a world that has no time for anything, there is always a time to give, and every once in a while…….. a time to get.” I love this blog. This dude has sick style and is a good writer to boot. Always keeping me up on the latest WWII inspired clothing.
http://ilovetypography.com/ – “…iLT is designed to inspire its readers, to make people more aware of the typography that’s around them.” Hey, I love typography too. It’s only natural that I read this amazing blog. Such rich content!
http://www.thedieline.com/
http://mermag.blogspot.com/ – “My name is Merrilee and I am an illustrator, painter and designer. This blog is a collection of my creative endeavors as well as a sampling of all things that inspire me including illustration, fine art, fashion, design, pattern, textiles, and interiors as well a peek into my work and my life.” This woman is one of the most truly creative people I’ve ever seen.
http://www.theselby.com/ – “the selby features photographs, paintings and videos by todd selby of interesting people and their creative spaces” Some people just have a knack for creating totally sweet workspaces. I love this dudes photography.
Man…I could go on and on. I hope you all enjoy reading these blogs as much as I do.
Thanks for reading.
