Living Out Loud

Drum roll, please…

I got curious…what are the top 10 sites in the US?  What are the top 10 sites in the world?  I expected to find search engines, sites like Wikipedia, etc; And those were in there…but what shocked me was the popularity of online community based sites such as Myspace and Facebook.

According to Alexa, MySpace and Facebook are listed in the top ten most popular sites in the US.  On a global scale, MySpace and Facebook come in the top ten most popular sites in the world!  Seriously, community sites are popular.

These statistics shocked me.  I remember logging into Facebook in my senior year, second semester of college.  Amid the final papers and exams, Facebook was this great resource for procrastinating.  My friends and I were hesitant to post pictures or too much information.  We were a little unsure of this online social community.

Companies are marketing themselves in these areas as well.  In fact, I was meeting with a client, yesterday and she began talking with me about Facebook and using it as a marketing tool.  FranklinIs.com even has a Facebook and MySpace page.  If you are an avid Facebooker or MySpacer send FranklinIs a friend request.

With MySpace and Facebook in the top ten for most popular US websites and global sites, other community global networks included You Tube, Windows Live and Blogger.com.  These community networks prove something: we are living in a time where the majority wants to live out loud and be seen and heard!
